THE PROGRAMMES
1. New Forest Year – Stephen Garelli, the Forest’s Head Agister, guides you through a year in this ancient landscape and newest National Park


2. Ancient Roots – Hampshire and the Isle of Wight are rich in archaeological treasures. Hear how the actions of a Hampshire man started the Roman invasion of Britain.



3. Round the Isle – the beautiful and diverse landscapes of the Isle of Wight have provided its people with a living for generations, including how extinct monsters brought a dying farm back to life.


4. Rivers – the chalk rivers and streams of Hampshire are a distinctive feature of the landscape and a valuable one providing the power to mill corn and weave silk.

5. Natural Worlds – the early development of modern ecology took place in Hampshire. The area now helps to preserve valuable ecosystems for the future.

6. Trains to Planes – the first powered flight took place here in 1908. Since then, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight have been at the forefront of transport technology, including an interview with Britain's most senior air accident investigator.

7. Southampton – best known for the great passenger liners of the past, the launch of the Queen Mary 2 is bringing the cruise ships back to this ancient port. The programme includes interviews with the first Master of the QM2 and a survivor of the Titanic

8. Navy Port – the presence of HMS Victory, Nelson’s flagship at the Battle of Trafalgar, shows the importance of Portsmouth to the Royal Navy. The Battle of Trafalgar is brought dramatically to life and we have a vision of the Navy of the future.

9. Shipwreck! – the sea bed around the coast is littered with wrecks, some concealing treasure, others hiding tragic stories. Hear about the discovery of a lost Royal Navy submarine and of Viking silver.


10. Army – with Aldershot in its borders, the Army has an important presence within Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. The programme includes an interview with a army chaplain captured by the SS during the retreat to Dunkirk.

11. Holy Sites – the Christian history of England is deeply rooted in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight and continues to this day. Hear what happened to the nuns of Romsey following the Dissolution and of the lives of their modern counterparts.


12. Writers’ Counties – Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet may have been first performed in Hampshire and the Counties have played host to many literary figures. Get the Jane Austen tingle feeling, learn of D.H. Lawrence's romantic assignations and hear what inspires modern writers.
